I called to try make an appointment for my 10 month old son who has a chesty cough and after being told I was number 4 in the call queue I then continued to hold for 25 minutes before I managed to speak with someone. After explaining my son's condition and the fact that we were flying the following day I was told that they could only make emergency appointments at 08:30am or 1pm and I would have to call back! This is not the first time my family have been let down by Glenlyn Medical Centre, over the last year we have failed to be notified of test critical test results, been told to make appointments for vaccinations only to turn up for the appointment and wait 20 minutes and then be told we weren't eligible for the vaccination and couldn't even get it if we paid, had to wait over 3 weeks to get appointments and then there is their general lack of communication and care. This is the WORST service I have ever had from a doctors surgery and have ended up paying for private care a number of times due to the shocking lack of care from Glenlyn. I'm not saying the doctors are bad, as when we have managed to get appointments some of the doctors have been lovely. But overall Glenlyn give shocking service to their patients.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We apologise if our service did not meet your expectations, and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. We continually strive to provide a consistently reliable service and an excellent level of patient care. We do have an Urgent Care Clinic for appointments on the day. The Urgent Care Clinic is sit-and-wait at the Giggs Hill branch. This Clinic caters for sudden problems like sore throats, rashes and fevers. Patients have access to experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioners who can diagnose and prescribe for these conditions, just like doctors. They are also able to direct complex cases to doctors at the surgery if needed. The Urgent Care Clinic has limited capacity. When it is full to capacity, patients, who feel they have an urgent problem, would need to attend a walk-in centre or A&E. Alternatively, they could try the next day for an appointment. Due to the merger of Glenlyn with Giggs Hill, there is a growing range of services available to all patients. By ringing either Glenlyn (0208 979 3253) or Giggs Hill (0208 398 8619), routine GP and nurse appointments can be booked at either location that you choose. You can call and ask for a ‘prebookable appointment’ at any time. There is a rolling programme of releasing ‘prebookable appointments’, so that there are appointments available daily. The majority of appointments are released at 8 am and do go very quickly despite the high number of appointments we have to offer. We also have the facility to book certain appointments online. To take advantage of this, please visit the Practice for this to be arranged for you. Nationally, we are seeing an increase in demand for GP appointments and we are also experiencing this locally, which means we are busier than ever. We have a full-time Practice Nurse who joined our team at the beginning of May, and two Doctors who have recently joined us. We continue to undertake recruitment to extend the team further. We are also expanding our administration team and providing them with additional training to help improve how we work as a Practice. We have a complaints and investigations procedure and would encourage you to contact us in writing, so that we may investigate further. All outcomes are communicated and significant events raised where required. We appreciate your feedback and your comments will be used as part of our staff training, in order to improve the standard of care and level of service we provide.

I regret to say Glenlyn's surgery has been going down hill more and more for the last few years. 1) Constantly you are appointed a new GP in the system without been notified, why do GPs do not like to stay long in this center, go figure.. 2) Receptionist are quite unhelpful and often on the verse of being rude..yes, I understand they get a lot of complaints to deal with..go figure again, however you are in a client facing role,so should act as such. 3) To use my last experience, had to go back 3 times to get a simple letter changed, then the appt was not booked into the system properly, afterwards another appt overlapping was confirmed by reception to be canceled ,yet just got another reminder it is still in the system and just went into the system myself and canceled it myself..hopeless really. 4) Most partners of the surgery or long standing consultants are never there stating on the website " they love to do more practice" however in reality are too occupied with raising their own profile doing tutoring and lecturing in other hospitals and colleges, to me large part of the problem not being engaged with their center. A real shame ..

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We apologise if our service did not meet your expectations, and appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. We continually strive to provide a consistently reliable service and an excellent level of patient care. We fully understand your comments concerning continuity. Although patients may not see the same GP at each visit, the patient’s records are available at the time of their appointment. We do always try to offer appointments with the same GP but unfortunately this is not always possible. We also have the facility to book appointments online. To take advantage of this, please visit the Practice for this to be arranged for you. We had a series of retirements which led to unwanted change. Some physicians had been commuting long distances which no doubt motivated their decision to leave. The Glenlyn Medical Centre is a training surgery. This means that some physicians start here and go on to specialise in their chosen field. We are very grateful to those who have remained and provided stability. However, now we are very happy with our medical team of Doctors, Advanced Nurse Practioners, Nurses and Health Care Assistants. Nationally, we are seeing an increase in demand for GP appointments and we are also experiencing this locally, which means we are busier than ever. We have a full-time Practice Nurse who joined our team at the beginning of May, and two Doctors who have recently joined the Practice. We continue to undertake recruitment to extend the team further. My appointment on the 9th of February was supposed to obtain urgent care and a referral to St.Georges for an urgent MRI Scan to sort out my spinal and neurological problems connected with my neck and shoulder and upper limb pains. An appointment was arranged for me to attend St.Georges Neurology Dept for the 10th March but was cancelled owing to the "Junior Doctors" strike. A further appointment was made for me to attend on the 31st March. On this occasion I was told by the Neurologist that as they did not have a scan to refer to nothing could be done. A wasted journey totalling 3hours. Yet another date has been set for the 26th May. A letter was sent to Glenlyn dated the 11th April, addressed to Dr G Brodie asking Glenlyn to arrange an MRI scan of my cervical spine to enable St.Georges to refer to the image. Also requested is referral to local Orthopaedic Services to investigate right shoulder joint disease. On Friday 22nd April my wife discovered on contacting Glenlyn that the letter was entered on Glenlyn's computer but as Dr G Brodie had left some time ago no action had been taken. Janet? in the Glenlyn office said she would place a copy of the letter in a doctors tray. She said for us to ring back next Friday for any information. I cannot believe it that nearly three months have been wasted. Michael A. Rowlerson

Up to four weeks to wait for a GP appointment is unacceptable. This surgery needs to start answering the thousands of complaints it is receiving. Why isn't the NHS stepping in to resolve the issues the community is facing?
